What is your attitude to investment risk?

As a long-term investor, I believe that real risk is permanent impairment of capital, as opposed to volatility which can create attractive opportunities for long-term investors. I therefore believe it is key to constantly reassess one’s long-term investment case – if it holds up, a correction in the security’s price provides an attractive buying opportunity, and true conviction in the long-term investment case provides the nerve to hold the position and exploit the security’s mispricing – if it is broken, this needs to be assessed as early as possible to limit further capital impairment.
