Working Forwards: Strategies to create systemic change and shape the workplace of the future

This is an invite-only event open to ACT Signatory firms and to other parties with a demonstrated interest or eligibility to participate.

How do we build and maintain effective, connected and future fit workforces that maximise employee potential?

The long-term success of the investment management industry relies on our ability to anticipate and build a sustainable, future-fit workforce in workspaces that maximise their potential. Bringing this to life means taking a joined-up and adaptable approach to shaping places, ensuring that we strengthen the ways in which people learn, connect, and develop.

How we work is changing. For example, areas like spontaneous learning, informal mentorship, and on-the-job development, are a natural part of workplaces. Yet these interactions have proved difficult to fully replicate across hybrid teams, and can lead to challenges such as disengagement, slower skill acquisition, and a weakened sense of belonging.

Senior leaders who play a critical role in shaping culture and accelerating talent, may have fewer structured opportunities to connect with junior colleagues, leaving critical gaps in the talent development pipeline.

Meanwhile, although ERGs remain vital for belonging, operating in silos reduces their ability to share insight, build momentum, and influence culture across the organisation.

These challenges are real, but they also present a unique opportunity for organisations to explore more inclusive ways of working that better reflect current workplace realities and expectations.

A strategic, systematic approach to developing workforces brings together culture, development and the employee experience. When done well, these carefully developed working models can enhance performance and create future ready workplaces that are more equitable, productive and sustainable.

Why should I come along?

Our Working Forwards Roundtable will bring together cross-functional perspectives to explore future-fit workforces. The session includes space to ask questions, explore ideas and seek solutions.

Our aim is for attendees to actively engage with peers from across culture, HR and people-management roles on current and future practice. You will have the opportunity to broaden your network, hear diverse perspectives, and gain fresh insight into the challenges and opportunities facing both employees and managers.

Why This Matters

Building effective workplaces that can support and connect a future-fit workforce is a critical task. When approached intentionally, today’s working models, including hybrid and flexible arrangements can strengthen collaboration and expand opportunities for growth.

However, without a joined-up strategy, firms risk uneven development experiences, underutilised leadership influence, and disconnected employee networks. This roundtable creates space to discuss and explore practical ways to address these gaps, and to shape workplaces that are more inclusive, resilient, and ready for the future.
